JT's World http://www.john-thompson.net Fri, 31 Jul 2009 07:44:42 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.2 en hourly 1 The Moon & the Future http://www.john-thompson.net/2009/07/31/the-moon-the-future http://www.john-thompson.net/2009/07/31/the-moon-the-future#comments Fri, 31 Jul 2009 07:44:05 +0000 JT http://www.john-thompson.net/?p=47 I’m disappointed in hearing that we’ll potentially not be able to start setting up a base on the moon in 2020.  While I wasn’t around when the first landing occurred, I was there for the incredible amount of books for children in the mid-70’s talking about space exploration and the moon landings.  I remember looking out my window and having dreams of visiting the moon or being an astronaut.  It seemed to be one of my biggest memories of being a child.  I guess it was one of those things that initially set things into motion of me being a geek.  I really think it’s odd that our current government administration is so set on taking over the country’s corporations & industries that they’re setting NASA funding aside that it will actually be corporations that will end up being the future of our space exploration.

Regardless, it’s not much of a point I was just disappointed in hearing that flaws in the current rockets are potentially holding us back from the 2020 date.  I’m unemployed at the moment but I’m all for funding for our space exploration.  We can’t stop technology from advancing because of economy.  I’d much rather see the money going towards our potential advancement in space than going to some of the freakin’ pet projects that the crap we’re using in the spendulous package.

I finally started working on a site again. I’ve not done a lot of web work or posting as of late on any of my (too many) sites. I wanted to get this ready for family and I’ll start adding some galleries for that including this weeks family reunion and past reunions. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some photos from family from the past July 4th family get togethers as well. :)

I updated the blog version, plug-ins and Photogallery.  I want to fix the photogallery so that it’s more incorporated into the site and have some access rights for family for the photos.

I also need to add my girl, Princess, to the photogallery.  She’s feeling neglected! :P

I’ll probably start getting things moving here again at the beginning of the year after my battle plan for www.thevietnamwar.org is complete and I’m considering bringing up a Metal/hard rock station called BREWTALITY in addition to Radio Vietnam and after The Sounds of Christmas ends in January.

I’m just trying to find one that I like and probably going with an All-In-One solution. The Canon’s get great reviews but lack network connectivity which is what I’d like, Wireless would be even better. They have one that had great reviews on PC Mag but seems to be non-existent to buy. Anyway you can check out a few more sunsets I added and a beach shot from South Beach Miami. :)

One of the things that I really wanted to use this station for is helping less fortunate children and helping out our (US) troops with care packages. A local (Columbus, Ohio) charity is Shoebox for a Solider! This is the kind of thing I started Radio Vietnam for and my patriotism and love for our soldiers continues with this charity and through any age of soldiers that have served our country. Take a look at this site and if you have a little extra cash or something they could use, help out our troops.
